Cwpan Ceredigion - Felinfach 5 v 2 Llanybydder

Felinfach bounced back in style and got revenge for their 5-0 caning against Llanybydder on the 1st game of the season with a very impressive nap hand of their own in this Ceredigion Cup encounter to move into the last 16 of the competition for the first time in 10 years.
Despite a number of regular 1st team players being unavailable for this fixture Felinfach always looked the better side despite going 2-1 down after only 10 minutes of the game. Asked to step up from the Reserves, their captain Denzil Davies put in a superb performance in keeping the pacy Llanybydder strikers at bay and was ably supported by strikers Richard Brennan and Dale "Fitz" Fitzpatrick who also started their first game of the season in the 1st team.
After Fitz got Felinfach of to a flyer stabbing home at close range, Llanybydder got straight back into the game with 2 goals (1 pen) in 2 mins. Felinfach failed to let that setback unsettle them and got back to 2-2 with a penalty converted by Captain Eilir Evans to go into half time all square.
Faced with a strong wind in the 2nd half Felinfach actually adapted better to the conditions and playing some excellent football scored 3 more goals without reply. A fine left foot strike from vice captain Richard Haywood, a 5 man move capped with an excellent 10 yard finish from Gareth Evans and another from evergreen 52 year old striker Fitz capped a very impressive all round team performance to put a jubilant Felinfach through to the next round.
Among the pick of the players for this tie were Denzil Davies for the way he stepped into the 1st team and Richard Haywood and Sion Jones for pulling all the strings in midfield, especially in the second half against a very strong wind. |
